Parkwood Hills Ottawa Real Estate

Parkwood Hills is a centrally located, family oriented neighbourhood located in the City of Ottawa and formerly Nepean. Like many city neighbourhoods, once upon a time, it was farmland. However, in the mid 1960’s in was developed by the largest residential builder in Ottawa, Minto Corporation. In fact, Minto still owns and maintains several multi-unit and rental properties in the area. The landmark condominium building in the neighbourhood, Horizon House, was also built by Minto in the year 1967 as the very first high rise condominium development in Canada.

The neighbourhood was initially popular with Italian Canadians but today boasts a diverse mix of ethnic groups, much like Ottawa itself. The housing available is also diverse from condo highrise units to owner occupied semi-detached & single homes. Parkwood Hills is located just a few kilometres south-west from the downtown core and is served by several transportation routes. The main arteries are Meadowlands Street, Fisher Avenue to the east and Merivale Rd to the west. Public transportation is very convenient with OC Transpo bus routes 111 and 117 being well used particularly by students attending Carleton University which is just east of the area.

Parkwood Hills boasts one of the city’s largest retail areas along Merivale Road. Virtually any goods or services are available there.  With busy retail, come hungry people and dozens of choices of restaurants in every type of cuisine!
The Parkwood Hills Community Centre offers outdoor swimming pool, 4 tennis courts, baseball fields and a skating rink.

Among schools there are Parkwood Hills PS, Century PS, Sir Winston Churchill PS and Merivale High School. In addition, Ryan and St. Rita schools are part of the Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board.

Come and visit Parkwood Hills today! You will agree it is a great place to purchase your next Ottawa home, condo or townhome.
