Nelles Estates Grimsby Real Estate

Nelles Estates in Grimsby
is One of My Favorite Neighborhoods

Nelles Estates is a historical neighbourhood in Grimsby located between QEW and lush landscape of Niagara Escarpment, east of Maple Avenue to the end of town boundaries. It was named after Colonel Robert Nelles, who together with his family, moved here from Mohawk Valley, New York after the American Revolution. The famous Nelles Manor, which was built in late 1700’s over a 10 year period in the Georgian style, still stands and it is located on 126 Main Street West.

The majority of the area consists of mature detached homes that sit on a large treed lots, and there are no two alike.  Due to the recent housing boom, there are couple of pockets of new luxury homes that were built on previous orchard lands.  These new homes are tastefully integrated within the more mature neighborhood. Prices range from mid 200’s to well over a million dollars.  In the last couple of years, this neighborhood has seen a drastic increase in population.  Due to the affordability of detached homes with large lots, there is a lot of young families with small children moving into the area, while older residents are moving into retirement homes that are located within the neighborhood (Shalom Manor and Gardens, Lincoln Park Retirement Community, Deer Park Villa and Suites, Kilean Lodge).

The two elementary schools, Nelles and Park, are within the walking distance, while the Grimsby Secondary School, located in Downtown Grimsby, is short driving distance away. West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is located in the heart of this neighborhood, which make is very convenient for older residents, as well as those with children.  Recreation is a major part of everyone’s life and Centennial Park, together with newly built the Niagara West YMCA offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. This area is most beautiful from spring to fall when residents and visitors get to enjoy the beautiful colors of majestic Escarpment, experience seasonal fruit stands with locally grown produce, take tasting tours of local vineries, go on a hike of the popular Bruce Trail or watch the birds on the Beamer Falls. Other major attractions include Grimsby Farmers’ Market held every Thursday between early May and late October, Festival at the Forty in the mid August, the Grimsby Festival Art in September and the Santa Claus Parade in early December.

Easy access to QEW and a quick commute to St Catharine’s, Hamilton and Burlington makes this neighborhood a pleasure to live in and a great choice to purchase your next Grimsby home for sale.
