Beaverbrook Ottawa Real Estate

Why the Beaverbrook Neighborhood
in Old Kanata is my Favorite Real Estate

Beaverbrook, also known as “Old Kanata”, is bounded on the East by March Road, on the South by Campeau Drive, on the West by the Kanata Lakes sub-division, and on the North by green-space.

Bill Teron, the original developer of Beaverbrook in the late 1960’s, envisioned a “Village in the Country”. His idea was that homeowners would feel that they were living in a park. You would be able to look down a street and see only natural elements such as trees, plants, and rocks. That’s why Beaverbrook has buried wires for hydro and telephone service. It is also why about 40% of all land in Beaverbrook is green-space. Imagine how your current neighbourhood would look if 4 out of every 10 houses were replaced by a park. In Beaverbrook almost every street has access to it’s own park. Most of these parks have a pathway, which connect with pathways from other parks so that it is easy to get almost anywhere in the community in relative safety. The larger parks also have play structures, athletic fields, tennis courts and even one public outdoor swimming pool.

Within the boundaries of Beaverbrook, or immediately adjacent to it you will find all the shops and restaurants you need on a daily basis. These include churches, a police station, a fire hall, a community centre, pharmacies, dry cleaners, food stores, convenience stores, banks, coffee shops, art galleries, daycare centers, hardware stores, auto repair shops, pubs, fast food outlets, sit-down restaurants, an ice arena, a senior’s centre, and the new West District Public Library. You’ll also find public and private elementary schools, some with French Immersion, The Earl of March which is a public High School, the Kanata Academy which is a private school from Kindergarten to Grade 8, a Montessori School, and at least one Tutoring Centre. Doctors, Dentists, and Massage Therapists all have offices in Beaverbrook. Yet none of these businesses are intrusive to the park-like atmosphere. A non-resident might drive through Beaverbrook and not notice most of them, but residents know where they all are.

You’ll also find every type of housing option abound within Beaverbrook. You could purchase a large detached home, condo or town house style of property. Beaverbrook is also know for its large hedges, which separate most single detached houses. It is very easy to look out of your windows and forget you are in a suburban neighbourhood.

Beaverbrook is a wonderful neighbourhood for raising a family.
