After Elte furniture moved to the area known as the Castlefield Design District, there wasn't much there. Of course, that was 25 years ago and today things are quite different. Instead of just one furniture store, this district is an actual shopping destination today.

Stores are found throughout the district for all types of things from floors to fixtures to furniture and more. When the Metrick brothers decided to launch a new company called Elte Market, this was the area they chose. The new condo-furniture store fits in quite well.

Along with the Elte Market, the Castlefield Design district features other mainstays, such as Ginger's. With some great stores moving into the area, others are following including the Art Shoppe, which came recently, GE, which is talking about setting of a shop and Modani, which opened its first Canadian store in this district.

This area is certainly on the rise, which is evident by the recent Starbucks opening at Dufferin and Castlefield. When Starbucks shows up, most locals believe the area has finally made it and it's a true shopping area.

Another shop found within the area is called Metropolis Living. This shop is known for all types of items and provides something a bit unique to the area.

The northern area of Toronto has become a draw for many businesses. One of the major reasons is the high rent found downtown. The Castlefield Design District is more appealing because of the lower cost and the fact that many other stores are here.

However, shopping in the area will require a car to get to and from the stores, but also to haul your purchases home. A full day here is a great way to see all the stores and find out what the district really does have to offer.
